We are nearing the first official day of summer, but most people have already spent a lot of time poolside and out in the sun. It is a great time to rethink your sunscreen to make sure you are getting the protection you need when you need it.
Obviously, we should be applying sunscreen when going to the beach or pool and will be directly in the sunlight. However did you realize that the sun can damage your skin and cause wrinkles and dark spots in any kind of sun light? This includes incidental sun exposure through the windows of your car or office or when walking in and out of buildings. For this reason, it's a great idea to have the sunscreen built right into your moisturizer so that you are applying it daily before you even leave the house.
Dermalogica has a moisturizer with sun screen in each of their treatment lines so that you can be protected no matter what your skin type.
For aging skin (or anyone over 30 who is concerned with the possibility of fine lines), there is the Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50 and also provides skin-firming peptides and antioxidant power.
For hyperpigmentated skin (meaning melasma and dark spots), there is the Pure Light SPF 50. This recently re-formulated product has different ingredients to stop sun damage as it's happening and breakdown the process that causes the production of melanin in the skin.
For oily skin or acne-prone skin, there is Oil Free Matte SPF 30. This lightweight moisturizer will absorb oil throughout the day and provide a sunscreen that will not make you any more oily.
For sensitive skin, there is the Super Sensitive Shield SPF 30 with Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, two physical (not chemical) sunscreen agents that will work best with sensitive skin that can react to the chemical ingredients in most sunscreens. Also, in the Ultra Calming line, there is a tinted moisturizer and the Redness Relief Primer, which is tinted to eliminate the redness caused by sensitivity. None of these products from the UltraCalming line contain chemical sunscreens so they are excellent for people who normally react to sunscreen.
There are also tinted moisturizers and heavier make-up primers that have the full benefits of Dermalogica's excellent sunscreen but also can even out skin tone and make a great base for foundation or powders.
With all of these options, we can all stay protected from the sun throughout the summer and slow down the signs of again for years to come!
